One of the best posts about this whole “Flash vs HTML5” argument that started after Apple’s iPad announcement.
HTML5 vs Flash is a new Blog I started. The super hero for Flash is pretty obvious: Flash. For HTML5 I picked Green Lantern. Not sure why.. a lot of people think HTML5 is new and fresh and green.. it was also a good fit because I could replace the lantern with an Apple in memory of Steve Job’s thoughts on Flash.
A Koi fish made with Flash’s Bones Tool. When you move the mouse left/right in front of the fish, he starts to swim faster.
It’s my first time really trying out inverse kinematics in Flash. Usually you create some MovieClips and connect them with bones. But you also can apply the bones to a single vector shape with different colors (like the fish in this example). The cool part is that the shape gets bended in a more natural way. Then you can control the bone-joints with ActionScript.
I hope Adobe will improve the bones tool in Flash CS5. It would be really cool to add bones to a bitmap like in AfterEffects. Also once you added the bones, you can’t edit them. So when I wanted to make a change to the fish, I had to start over every time. It’s also not possible to combine timeline animation of the bones and AS3, you have to decide either or.
ps. If you’re on a MacBook, like I am, your fan might turn on. Sorry, I couldn’t resist adding some filters and effects. Press the [SPACE] bar to enable some performance stats.
FITC Amsterdam 2010 was my first “big” Flash conference I attended. So far I just knew some of the big names from their blogs and websites, so it was great see and listen to them in person.
ps. The picture above is from ISO50’s session.

The Magic Mirror is just a little demo. It’s still not complete. The idea is to add Facebook-Connect so it would know what kind of [spoiler-alert “product”] to show, personalized on your gender, age and so on..
I’m also not sure if there is a company that would want to make fun of their clients (Dove is just used as an example). So this might just remain a little lab demo.
Note: If you can’t see yourself in the mirror after confirming in the camera settings, just right-click and pick the right webcam driver.
This radial Flash menu is dynamic and can get changed trough an xml file. But of course it doesn’t fit all situations. It has its limits with adding a lot of items or long names.
PS. An additional feature (not implemented in this version) could be: You can spin the wheel and where it stops, that’s where it navigates to. Like a wheel of fortune. So you randomly navigation trough the site. Not really good usability, but fun. Hehe..
Hawk Nelson’s Avatar Creator tool to promote their new album. Fans can use a picture and add 3D glasses to make it look like the original cover art. See some samples in this Video.

tocch provides specialized coaching, training and consulting services. There was a pretty tight deadline for this project, so I tried out the Gaia Framework for the first time and it went pretty smooth.
Can you see the speech bubble hidden in the logo? It’s in the negative space between the two C’s. It matches well because the name sounds like “talk” and they are about communication.
